What coaching has taught me.

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share a little bit about my coaching experience! Coaching has taught me a lot in the last two years. Starting my coaching career in a pandemic was eye-opening to say the least. If you had told me that in my twenties part of my daily life I would be handling the youth from newborn to young adult age I wouldn’t have believed you! But what I really hadn’t expected was to love it so much. I knew I loved being a leader and inspiring others. That definitely has not changed. But here are some other things this journey has taught and tested within me.

For starter

Inspiring is super important to me. Knowing how much dance and pom helped me as a youth continues to be the reason why I want to inspire and support them. There is never enough people inspiring the young woman to chase their dreams no matter how impossible they seem.

This journey has also tested my strength, patience and time management. Which, to be fair I thought I was really good at but there is always room for improvement.

Being involved in the dance world now after so many changes to the industry really opened my eyes to the game in which coaches have to play to. The rules, regulations and more really have teams jumping through hoops! Although these are put in place to keep the dancers safe. It has been very interesting to see how each team interrupts these rules and puts their own flair on them to put together a 1 and half minute extremely intense and technically difficult routine.

But I think the most fun thing about being a coach so far has been seeing high school all over again through their eyes. What’s extremely important to them I wouldn’t think twice about today in my twenties, their innocence yet maturity level always surprises me and the motherly instinct to keep them safe and warn them about all they will go through between now and my age is always there. But I know they will figure it out in their own time. We all do. Every year and every team brings on excitement and their own set of challenges but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Tomorrow we end of our season, and it is all a bit of a emotional rollercoaster. I am dreading saying goodbye to my senior but I am so excited to see them crush their next chapter. I am also so excited for our next season as the team and talent just keeps getting better!

Thank you for allowing me to be your coach!!

xx
